The Rural Development Programme 2007-2013
Denmark and the EU will invest over 6 billion DKK (more than 800 million Euro) in the development of rural districts up until 2013. The intention with the Rural Development Programme is to give the population good possibilities for living in and of the rural districts.
In order to do this, new employment opportunities have to be created in the rural areas and the business development in the food sector has to be improved, so the sector can survive the challenges of globalisation. Also, the nature and the environment have to be cared for, and there is finally a general need to improve conditions of life in rural districts.
The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries is - through the Local Action Groups (LEADER groups) - giving local actors direct influence on the development in the rural areas . The groups are responsible for parts of the programme concerning the creation of new jobs and good living conditions.
